I'd imagine you'll keep the setback position. If so, will the six be too tall?

Dr. C, the Chevy small block sits pretty low in the chassis so there shouldn't be a height problem.

I do think I'll make the top of the cowl removable so it will be easier to work on.

Preliminary measurements indicate the front axle will have to be moved forward a few inches

I built the floor and tunnel in this thing backward so I have to remove all of it to get to the bell housing bolts. Probably will replace it all with aluminum to make the Crosley as light as is safely possible.

I approve of the choice of non traditional engines, especially in line 6s. Cool. My Aussie 4.0l Ford is getting exactly the same treatment

Thanks MACKAZ. I like the challenge of making horsepower out of an unusual engine. With the Jeep engine the car will be slow enough to be in my comfort zone.

When the drag strip announcer says, "Here's 79 year old Bob....."' you can figure you are not the typical racer.

I spent an hour dismantling the thing. Will probably take the body off to check why it started handling badly and to repaint the frame.

Still in the disassembly phase. The Magnum front axle is out. It has Wilwood discs and a rack and pinion on it. It will be going in the Renault. The top of the cowl is cut off. Much better access to the engine bay now. It will be put back on with some easy to remove clamps. Here's a pic of the Anglia front axle. Simple, with no brakes, cross leaf spring and split wishbones.

After some years at the drag strip and a lot of time sitting idle the Crosley is absolutely filthy. There's oil and grime everywhere. Next I'll cut off all the brackets that are not needed and locate and install the front axle.

So, no front brakes and... spindle mount wheels?

Dr.c, I've got a couple options. 17" Centerlines and 16" Anglia steel wheels. The steel wheels would be mounted on the brake drums. Since they're wide fives I can't trim any weight off the drums.

The local nostalgia racing group won't accept the Centerlines as they look too modern. I might be able to use the hubs from the Centerlines and mount some other rims.

Just 2 body mount bolts (hard to get at), the right door and the tail gates yet to remove and then the body can come off.

I like the Anglia wheels. The Centerlines look too modern, and out dated. I have some SuperTricks that are like that.

Could you turn down the Anglia drums and just keep the face and about half an inch of the "shoe" surface part?

The thing about a '39 Ford pick-up is that that ugly grille kinda' grows on ya' after a while.

Not taking anything too seriously.
